Carol A. (Schultz) Verkuilen

Carol A. Verkuilen, 82, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024, with her loving family by her side.
Carol was born on June 25, 1941, to Cecilia Schultz. On July 22, 1961, she was united in marriage to John Verkuilen at St Mary Catholic Church. Their union was blessed with 5 sons. Carol’s loves of sports as a child continued into adulthood and became a passion that she and John shared with their boys. She was an active member of her community and formed lifelong friendships with other volunteers of The Kaukauna Athletic Club and The Kaukauna Raiders Youth Football. She was the first women to ever win the Red Smith Award for her work with youth sports. She enjoyed attending the many sporting events of her children and grandchildren. Carol was a gifted knitter and spent countless hours creating baby blankets, booties and washcloths. If it was known to Carol that someone was expecting a baby, she got to knitting and blessed was that child to receive something made with such love.
Carol is survived by her husband John, 5 sons; Craig (special friend Gloria Strenn) Verkuilen, Steve (Jill) Verkuilen, Gary (Melissa) Verkuilen, Den Verkuilen and Doug (special friend Michelle Immel) Verkuilen, grandchildren; Tanner, Bryce, Brock, Amber, Josh (Sarah), Nate, Anthony (Laura), Morgan, Mackenzie and Kendra, Preston, Alexis (Dylan), great grandchildren; Harper, Hadley, Braden and Addison, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Annamarie Hein, Robert (Gloria) Verkuilen, George “Pork” Verkuilen, Dolores Schultz, Pat (Harry) Schultz, Beverly Bangart, Joe Verkuilen, and Jim (Sharon) Verkuilen, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Carol was preceded in death by her mom, brothers; Bill Schultz and Al Belling, sister & brothers-in-law Fran (Wally) Verhagen, Diane Verkuilen, Marilyn Verkuilen, Bruce Schultz, Merlin “Spike”Hein and Al Bangart.
The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses and staff at St Elizabeth’s Hospital for their care of Mom during her final days. We’d also like to express our gratitude to Father Luke for his compassion and kindness during this difficult time. God bless you all.
The funeral mass for Carol will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 309 Desnoyer St., Kaukauna. A time of visitation will be held on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. For online condolences please visit www.verkuilenfh.com.
