Betty M. (Roffers) Schmit, age 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 13, 2025. She was born on July 1, 1937, daughter of the late Lester and Henrietta (Kocken) Roffers.
In early adulthood, Betty worked as a salon stylist and eventually transitioned to postal work. She stayed on this career path until her retirement. She met and married Lee Schmit on August 23, 1958. Crafting was a large part of Betty’s life, but quilting was her favorite. She spent countless hours sewing with her quilting group, watching “Sewing with Nancy,” and creating stunning quilts. In the summer, Betty spent her time tending to her garden of flowers and vegetables of all kinds. Her winters were filled with baking delicious desserts, collecting Christmas ornaments, and shopping for the people she loved. Betty was also a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Seymour, WI.
Betty is survived by her children: Michael (Julie) Schmit and Mark (Sarah) Schmit; granddaughters: Alyssa Schmit and Aurora Schmit; godchild, Brenda Halase-Schuh; siblings: Linda (Gary) Halase, David (Claire) Roffers, Harley (Nancy) Roffers, Gary (Carolyn) Roffers, and Joseph Roffers; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Schmit; son, Terry Schmit; infant sister, Mary; and four brothers: Jim (Ruth Ann) Roffers, Robert “Bobby” Roffers, Mike Roffers, and Willy Roffers.
A Funeral Service for Betty will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 915 Ivory St., Seymour, WI. Visitation will begin at the church at 9:00 a.m. and will continue until the time of the service. Betty will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
