Barbara Jean Gillis

Barbara Jean Gillis, age 79, of Sherwood, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 27, 2019, surrounded by her family.  Barb was born on March 13, 1940 to the late Michael and Margaret (Schmidt) Schreiber.  She married Gerald Gillis on August 18, 1962.  He preceded her in death on April 25, 1992.  Barb enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, watching the Packers and riding “Big Red”. 

She is survived by her daughters: Cindy and Jeff Taugner; Sam and Kel Scott; Vicki Gillis and Tim Stadler; Dawn and Brad Zwiers; and Jill Spady; her grandchildren:  Logan, Parker and Ethan Taugner; Aaron and Adam (Carrie) Scott; Alec and Colin Zwiers; Aliyah and Alivia Spady and a great-grandchild, Bennett Scott. Barb is also survived by her brothers and sisters:  Mike Schreiber, Ray (Lois) Schreiber, Jerome (Diane) Schreiber, Sylvia (Gary) Breier, Bob (Mary) Schreiber, Ron (Kathy) Schreiber, Joseph Schreiber, Angie (Jim) Hall, Mary (Mike) Olson and Sue Jacobson; her in-laws: Jim Schmalz, Cris Schreiber, Tom (Barb) Gillis, Ken (Kathy) Gillis, Ginger (Wally) Freund, Mary Jahnke, Colleen (Tom) Williams, Mike (Liz) Gillis, Kathy (Darren) Carly, Pat Gillis, Barb Kieso Gillis, Barb Robley Gillis, Gloria Gillis and Jerry Weyenberg.  Also numerous nieces & nephews

In addition to her husband, Barb was preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Royal and Marie Gillis; her brothers, Eugene and John, a sister, Margaret; brothers-in-law, Chuck Jacobson, Dan, Pete, Wayne and Jack Gillis, Earl Jahnke; and sisters-in-law, Alice Schreiber, and Judy Weyenberg. 

Funeral services for Barb will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at St. John Sacred Heart Catholic Church, N369 Military Rd., Sherwood, with Fr. Michael Betley officiating.  Visitation will be at the church from 1:30 p.m. until the time of services. 

The family would like to thank doctors & nurses, especially Ardith & Joanie at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center – Appleton, for their care and compassion.

The tears we shed we can wipe away

But the ache in our hearts will always stay

If tears could build a stairway

And memories were a lane
