Anna De Coster Obituary

Anna Mae De Coster, age 93, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on July 17, 2025. She was born the last child of Leo and Adrianna (Arnoldussen) Schommer on November 17, 1931. Ann married Mark De Coster on October 23, 1953.

Anna was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a charter member of the Freedom VFW Auxiliary Unit #7692 and lifelong member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom. Anna embroidered “days of the week” dishtowels and gave them generously to her loved ones. She loved baking and was known for her famous chocolate chip cookies. She cracked countless hickory nuts and gave her children a quart bag of nuts for Christmas. Anna enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s activities, playing sheepshead, and attending Mass regularly. She enjoyed living at the farmhouse and spoiling the cats. She will be dearly missed.

Anna is survived by her children: Dennis (Char) De Coster, Christy (Doug) Hinkens, Mike (Carrie) De Coster, Bob “Twinky” (Amy) De Coster, Dave (Rose) De Coster, Ken De Coster, Tom (Dawn) De Coster, Kathy De Coster, and Jeff (Maggie) De Coster; grandchildren: Tim (Natalie), Julie (Adam), Craig (Sam), Penny (John), Kayla (Reed), Kelly (Keith), Kory (Katie), Andy (Tara), Brandon (Dana), Michelle (Cole), Toni (Mark), Alix (Patrick), Emily (Tevita), Teri, Angela (Cody), Brooke (Shawn), Shelby (Taj), Emma, and Drew; 29 great grandchildren; in-laws: Leo De Coster, Peg De Coster, and Evelyn Carlson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Mark De Coster; parents, Leo and Adrianna Schommer; father and mother-in-law, Leonard and Anna De Coster; grandson, Michael Hinkens; all of her siblings and many members of Mark’s family.
