Allen C. Schumacker ("Butch"), age 74, of Kaukauna passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton. He was born on August 5, 1949, in Sparta, Wisconsin, son of the late Clifford and Margery (Newton) Schumacker. After graduating from Sparta High School in 1967, he studied Paper Technology at Valley Technical College in Oshkosh. Following the completion of his studies, he landed a career in the Fox Valley and spent close to 40 years with Georgia Pacific until his retirement in 2014. He met and married the love of his life, Janice M. Van Groll, on December 2, 1972, and they enjoyed just over 51 years of marriage. Al had a passion for maintaining his lawn both at his home in Kaukauna and their cottage on Lake Poygan. Al and Jan enjoyed annual trips to Las Vegas along with weekends at the cottage with family and friends. Al had a love for following Wisconsin sports teams, especially the Packers, as well as local high school sports. Al's pride and joy were his seven grandchildren. He especially loved visiting with them and hearing about school and their athletic or extra-curricular activities and attending when he could.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jan; his children: Todd (Keri) Schumacker, Appleton; Tina (Corey) Planert, Kaukauna; Trisha (Jake) Vande Voort, Combined Locks; grandchildren: Paige, Collin, Ashton, Olivia, Griffin, Brynley, and Marley; brother, Terry (Ginger) Schumacker, Tomah; siblings-in-law: Roger (Beth) Van Groll; Jim (Nancy) Van Groll; LeaAnn Van Groll; Wally Squier along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his parents-in-law: William and Barbara Van Groll; sister, Sandra Williams; siblings-in-law: Norb, Dennis, and Bobbie Van Groll; LaVerne Squier; nephews: Nathaniel Schumacker and Bill Squier; grand nephew, Clifford Schumacker.
A Memorial Service for Al will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. at Kaukauna’s Verkuilen – Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home (2401 Fieldcrest Dr.) with Father Ron Belitz officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
