Joan W. Muth, age 94, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2018. She was born in Elroy, Wisconsin on July 11, 1924, daughter of the late Roy and Sophie (Vedum) Hyer. Joan married Philip Muth on August 16, 1947, and together they recently celebrated 71 years of marriage.
Joan was an OB nurse for 35 years at Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids, where she helped deliver over 3,000 babies during her career. She was a wonderful baker, and was known for her great pie crusts. Joan enjoyed sewing, quilting, counted cross stitching and knitting baby sweaters. She volunteered as a
Girl Scout leader and at the hospital as an escort. Joan loved to make divinity for the OB staff for many years and give her friends daffodils in the spring. Her and Phil were active in ex-POA/MIA groups and together enjoyed traveling, especially to Europe, Hawaii and Australia.
Joan is survived by her loving husband, Philip Muth; children: Mark (Ellen) Muth, Milton, WI and Pam (Jerry) Sanderfoot, Combined Locks, WI; grandsons: Matthew and Philip (DeAnn) Muth; great grandchildren: Mara and Carter; Jerry’s daughters: Lisa Sanderfoot and Amy (Kevin) Carstens and their children, Anna and Erik; a brother, Norman (Carol) Hyer; a sister-in-law, Shirley Hyer; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Sophie; twin brother, John Hyer; a sister, Meryle Ehlert.
A memorial service will take place on Monday, November 26, 2018 at the Touchmark Retirement Community, 2601 Touchmark Drive, Appleton, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established. For online condolences, please visit www.verkuilenfh.com.
