Irene R. Schommer, age 70, of Kaukauna, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on January 22, 2018. She was born on March 28, 1947, daughter of the late Roy and Ruth (Gretzinger) Brownell. She married David Schommer on February 4, 1967, at St. John Church, Little Chute.
Irene worked at Gardenview Assisted Living in Appleton as a caregiver, where she enjoyed her residents immensely. She also owned “House on the Hill Home Daycare”, and loved each and every child that came through her care. Irene enjoyed going out to eat with her friends, but most importantly, loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Lisa (boyfriend, David Finch) Garnett; a son, Mark Schommer; grandchildren: Angi (Greg) Sweere, Zandria (boyfriend, Josh Krueger) Garnett, Tabitha Garnett and Victoria Garnett; great grandchildren: Liam and Fionna Sweere; a sister-in-law, Mary Brownell; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, David; twin sister, Eileen (Denny) Peterson; brother, Roy Brownell; sister-in-law: Annette Schommer.
Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at the Verkuilen-Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, 101 Canal Street, Little Chute. A time of visitation will be on Saturday at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
The Schommer family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Winkle, Dr. Schimke and all the nurses and respiratory therapists at AMC for the compassionate care given to Irene. Also, a special thank you to Debbie Cannon for the wonderful friendship over the years. In lieu of flowers a donation to the COPD Foundation in Irenes name would be appreciated.
