Agnes B. Edwards passed away Monday, June 11, 2018 at the Wisconsin
Veterans’ Home at King, Wisconsin where she had lived since October 2016.
She was born May 14, 1924 to the late Rev. Ernst and Minna Beyer in
Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Agnes began her career in journalism as a women’s
page writer for the Chicago Tribune. After her marriage to Paul Edwards on
August 1, 1959 she eventually became the food editor for the Miami News in
Miami, Florida. Her journalism career ended at the age of 72 with her
retirement from the Winn-Dixie grocery chain in Jacksonville, Florida after
several years as the company magazine editor. She then retired to Bristol
Village in Waverly, Ohio where she was a charter member of “The
Sisterhood.” Agnes then moved to Knoxville, Tennessee to live with her son
Tim Edwards and daughter-in-law Linda. Health needs led her to move to
the Wisconsin Veterans’ Home.
Agnes is survived by stepsons Michael Edwards, Bradenton, Florida, Randall
(Nancy) Edwards, West Columbia, South Carolina, granddaughter Ashley
(James) Gavin, Washington D.C., daughter-in-law Linda Edwards, Knoxville,
Tennessee, numerous nieces and nephews including Ann (Dick) Bowler,
Albuquerque, New Mexico, Mary (Jim) Rickerd, Boise, Idaho, Peter (Kathy)
Beyer, Kimberly, Wisconsin, Elizabeth (Harley) Woodward, Columbus,
Wisconsin, John (Leanne) Beyer, Appleton, Wisconsin, Sarah (Richard)
Cleary, Middleton, Wisconsin, David (Brenda) Beyer, Gladwin, Michigan,
Patricia (Neal) Patterson, Dallas, Texas.
Agnes was preceded in death by husband Paul, sons Timothy and Jonathan
Edwards, stepdaughter Robin Adams, siblings Marie (George) Grueder,
Ernest (Beatrice) Beyer, Martin (Gertrude) Beyer and Rudolph (Martha)
Beyer and nephew Mark Beyer.
Inurnment will take place on July 19, 2018 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Neenah,
Wisconsin. Memorials may be sent to the Veterans Home at King. The
family would like to thank the staff at King, especially the third floor of
Ainsworth Hall, for the extraordinary care Agnes received while at the
Veterans Home.
