Richard Wydeven

Richard  “Dick” Wydeven, 82, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 30, 2015. He was born April 16, 1933, son of the late Richard and Grace (Jansen) Wydeven. Dick graduated from Kimberly High School in 1951 where he excelled in music and earned several medals in state competition as a first chair trumpet player.  Dick was united in marriage to Betty (Elizabeth) Ryan on February 12, 1955. Together they worked in the restaurant industry for over 25 years, first owning and operating Dick and Betty’s (Lox Club) and later Oakwood Hills Supper Club. Still young in 1985, the couple embarked upon a successful career as hotel managers before retiring in 2005. Dick was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed fishing and hunting and passing those skills on to his children. He was a passionate sports fan and voracious reader. He was known for his kindness, intelligence, and sense of humor.  Dick will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.

Dick is survived by his children: Wendy (Amy Suprise) Wydeven, Tim Wydeven, Rich Wydeven and Daniel Wydeven; grandchildren: Chase and Kylee Wydeven; siblings: James (Janice), Tom (Betty), Bob (Donna), Jeff (Beth) and Elaine Wydeven, Carolyn (Dave) Minten and Barbara (Tom) Hoffman; brothers and sisters-in-law: Mary Ellen (Jerry) Locy and Margie (Dan) Verbeten; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; an infant daughter, Mary; a grandson, Ryan; his parents; father and mother-in-law: Timothy and Marie (Kurz) Ryan; a brother, Jerry Wydeven; brothers and sister-in-law: Robert Ryan and Zita (Fred) Steckelberg.

 

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 410 Wallace Street, Combined Locks, with Fr. Andy Kysely officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Interment will be in the parish cemetery along with his beloved wife. We wish to thank everyone who has been there for Mom and Dad and our family over these difficult times. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Oakridge Gardens for their compassionate care given to our father.

 

Dad, we love you and will miss you.  You were our strength and our family cornerstone.  Your stories will continue to makes us smile and laugh over and over again!  Tight lines Dad….forever!
