Lorraine J. Hooyman, 94, of Little Chute, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2015.  The daughter of the late George and Rose (Coenen) Hermsen was born August 27, 1920 in the town of Vandenbroek.  She married Leo Hooyman on November 8, 1941 at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute.

Lorraine was met at the gates of heaven by Leo who preceded her in death in 1978.  Lorraine will always be remembered as a woman who survived many challenges with great strength of character.  Her strong faith was the foundation of her life.  She had courage and a strong will and taught her large family by example. She taught them morals, courage, respect, and love.   Lorraine loved to cook and it made her most happy to see people enjoying her food.  She did a mountain of mending for her family over the years which included grandchildren.   She belonged to the Golden Agers, played many card games with family and friends, belonged to the Kimberly Homemakers, Romeo and Calicos square dance club and the Christian Mothers.

Left here on earth to cherish the memories of Lorraine are her 9 children: Elaine (Allen) Lamers, Joanne Helms, Dennis (Jane) Hooyman, Gary (Betty Jo) Hooyman, Karl (Barb) Hooyman, Mary (Carl) Ness, Rose (Chris) Conner, Jeff (Barb) Hooyman and Cheryl (John) Golden.    Lorraine had 22 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren.    Lorraine will be deeply missed by her remaining sisters   Grace (Ralph) Schmidt, Ellie Behling, Millie (Larry) Wippich and her brothers Joe and Lloyd (Marlene) Hermsen.  She is also survived by her sister-in-laws, Florence and Teresa Hooyman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, her parents, Leo’s parents Joseph and Dora Hooyman and her sisters, Helen Vande Voort, Ceil Hermsen, Marian Hermsen, Clara Newhouse, and her brother Ray.  She was preceded also by her son-in-law, Carl (Woody) Helms, her husband’s brothers and sisters, Marie (Otto) Coenen, Evie (Al) Huisman, Della (Clarence) Van Heuklon, Harold Hooyman, Delores (Bill) Baumann, Robert Hooyman and Joe Hooyman.  Also preceding her were her brothers-in-law Emmet Newhouse and Ed Behling and her sister-in-law, Lillian Hermsen.

You may own a million dollars, but you’re the poorest in the land, if you don’t have your beloved mother to clasp your lonely hand.  Though her smile is gone forever, and her hands you cannot touch, still we have many memories of our mother, we loved so much.  God has her in His kingdom; we have her in our hearts.  So you, who have a mother, cherish her with care, for you’ll never know the heartache, until she’s no longer there.

Thank you to Affinity Hospice especially Michelle, Nancy, Ann, Gina and Phil for their compassionate care, love & Friendship!
