Janet Weyenberg Obituary

Janet Marie Weyenberg

Janet M. Weyenberg, age 82, of Freedom, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, February 9, 2018. She was born on September 30, 1935, daughter of the late Ted and Ruth (Appleton) Meulemans. On June 2, 1955, Janet married her grade school sweetheart, Jim Weyenberg at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom. When Janet was in the fifth grade she came back to school from a sick day and found a new student, a cute boy, sitting at her desk. This was the start of a lifelong love story resulting in 59 wonderful years of marriage.

Her life revolved around faith, family and friends. She was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church.  She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and siblings.  She enjoyed her weekends up north and trips to Florida, but in the end, there was no place like home.  She loved cooking, baking, canning and her flower gardens.  Many enjoyed her world famous chicken noodle soup, potato salad, carrot cake, banana bread, and strawberry jam.  She loved to play cards, and was a member of many different card groups. Janet worked at Kimberly Clark, Zaug’s Catering and Thrivent Financial before her retirement.

Janet is survived by her children: Sandy (Tom) Vanden Hoogen, Connie (Tom) Reinke, Lori (Randy) Van Camp and Scott (Lori) Weyenberg; grandchildren: Stacy (Shawn) Wiedenhaupt, Travis and Tyler Carney, Tammi and Brian Reinke, Brooke Weyenberg and Myranda Lope; step grandchildren: Chad (Christine), Brett and Tamra Vanden Hoogen; great grandchildren: Ryan, Dylan, Lauren; step great grandchildren: Ella and Ally; siblings: Lois McMorrow, Barbara (Tom) Elliott, Joan Frederickson, Gary (Janice) Meulemans and Jim Meulemans; brothers and sisters-in-law: Lois (Carl) Hietpas, Dolly (Ed) Gerhartz, Roy (Katherine) Weyenberg, Mary Ann (Ken) Vander Wielen, Tom (Carol) Weyenberg, Carol (Gary) Micke, David (Jacci) Vandehey, and Mark (Pat) Vandehey; and many other family members and friends.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Weyenberg in 2015; her parents, Ted and Ruth Meulemans; a granddaughter, Amanda Reinke; a sister, Karlene Janssen; father and mother-in-law, Mervin and Myrtle Weyenberg; stepfather-in-law, Don Vandehey; brothers and sisters-in-law: Fritz Frederickson, Thomas McMorrow, Kay Meulemans, Larry Diedrick, Mary Lou Vandehey and Dick Vandehey.
