Harlin Spiegel

God called one of the best home on Friday, May 12, 2017. Born at home at twelve noon (according to Aunt Pearl) in Dale, WI, on July 30, 1934, Harlin Spiegel was the only son of Alois “Bill” and Bernice (Beckman) Spiegel. Harlin and Dee Gossen were married on August 29, 1952. Their four children are: Sherri (Phil) Devins, Rick (Linda) Spiegel, Jan (Terry) Zimmerman and Donna Arndt; grandchildren: Angie (Toke) Olawole, Virginia (Jon Look) Devins, John Spiegel, Chris (Jen) Spiegel, Tyler (Melissa) Zimmerman, Stefani (Josh) Zimmerman-Drake, Nicole (Jake) Criscione, Shanna (Robert) Buettner, Brad (Jen) Arndt, Travis (Madi) Arndt and Josh Arndt; great grandchildren: Hailey Stafford, Jordyn Olawole, Madelyn Look, Jesse and Jacob Spiegel, Logan, Mason and Brooklyn Spiegel, Grace and Trevan Zimmerman, Emma and Addison Drake, Natalia and Reese Criscione, Harrison and Corbin Buettner, Olivia, Evelyn and Baby Boy due in July Arndt and Oliver Michael Arndt. Harlin’s two great nieces, Alison and Abbey Van Heuklon were also a wonderful part of his life.

Harlin worked for 42 years as a pressman at Earl Litho Printing Company of Menasha. After his retirement he worked several part time jobs delivering flowers at Riverside Florists and Flowerama. This was a great job for him as he loved people and loved to talk.

Harlin suffered a stroke on April 1, 2003, which left him partially paralyzed and without speech, but he continued with good spirits and still was able to let everyone know what he wanted to say. He loved wheeling through his court and visiting with neighbors. For a man who couldn’t talk, he said a lot.

Harlin is further survived by his sisters: Gloria Van Heuklon and Joyce (Henry) Fabisiak; a brother-in-law, Jim Diem; Dee’s siblings: Bob (Gin) Gossen, Bev (Tom) Eisch, Joan Collins and Marvin (Barb) Gossen.

Harlin was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Diana Diem; Dee’s parents: Marvin and Gladys (Jorgenson) Gossen; son-in-law, Mike Arndt; brothers-in-law: Jack Van Heuklon, Chuck Collins and Don Gossen; and a niece, Sara Gossen.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, N2740 French Road, Appleton. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
